Symbiosis Gathering’s Lineup Will Melt Your Friggin’ Face Off!

Whoa. The Do Lab is there. El Circo is there. Bassnectar is there. Shit… CASPA is there. You’d best cop a ticket now if you know whats good for you, sucka! Shpongle?!?!! Amon Tobin!?!! Flying Lotus?!? Whaaaaaat!!!!?! This is the real future of music right here.

Symbiosis Gathering is not your average festival; these days even one-night outdoor events are calling themselves ‘festivals’ when everybody knows it is nothing more than a corporate event where most of the attendees are there to party, and not much more.

Symbiosis is different. With a focus on environmental consciousness and ecological sustainability, this celebration has a deep respect for our natural world as well as the community it sustains. Besides green living, Symbiosis is very much about transformational learning experiences and the aesthetics of co-creation, from visual arts to performance, rituals and dance.

And then there is the music. Not only does Symbiosis Gathering provide a meaningful backdrop to showcase our beloved West Coast artists and their evolving future sound, but we also create a welcoming environment for musicians, bands, DJs and producers from all over the world. From dubstep legends and jam band rockers to abstract beat scientists and street bass pioneers, there will be many old favorites to dance to as well as plenty of new discoveries to make.

Just to name a few: Les Claypool, Coco Rosie, Amon Tobin, Bassnectar, Freeland Live Band, Caspa, Flying Lotus, Glitch Mob, N-Type, Pretty Lights, Beats Antique, Bluetech, an-ten-nae, Heyoka, Lipp Service, Mimosa, Of Porcelain, Vibesquad, Welder, Babylon System and over a hundred more. Check out the entire lineup here.

Visual arts are also a major focus of Symbiosis, and you will find large-scale art installations, body art, a graffiti mural, a full-size art gallery space and live painting and workshops from many talented creators including Alex and Alyson Grey. Performing artists will also roam the venue and inject the community with the wild, the weird, and the wonder-inspiring. Come and join in the fun!

Transformational learning and integrated education is also central to the Symbiosis philosophy, and there will be workshops, playshops, discussions and presentations on a wide variety of subjects from esoteric philosophy and embodied movement to sacred geometry and composting alchemy. Our “Wellness Oasis” has a variety of resources to rejuvenate your body, nurture your spirit, and expand your mind with reiki, acupuncture, tai chi, Capoeira, juggling and much more.

And more! We have organic food vendors, sustainable arts and craft merchants in the tribal market, a kids’ area, guided nature walks, eco-arting, a lake for splash wars and water wings, and dishwashing stations to help you make this a no trash, carry-in, carry-out event.

Join us at historic Camp Mather on the edge of California’s treasured Yosemite National Park; the beautiful outdoor location is a gracious player and its natural splendor will inspire all who encounter it. It is with great respect that we will dance upon this land.

Burning Man 2009 – Big Sound Camp Lineups part 3 – Basscamp, Bootie, False Profit, Rock Bottom, Space Cowboys

On with the lineups! In this post are Basscamp 50Hz Healers, Bootie, False Profit, The Deep End / Rock Bottom, and the Space Cowboys.

Basscamp 50hz Healers – 2:00 & Biology

I don’t know much about this camp but they have an art car called Ganesh, which I’m guessing is some sort of elephant. Picks: Rabbit in the Moon, Marty Party, An-ten-nae, Knowa Knowone, Bassnectar, and I’m definitely interested in seeing this huge Salt Lake contingent throw drown. Salt Lake burners know what the eff is up.

Bootie

Adrian and the Mysterious D’s party Bootie, the best mashup party on the planet, will be 2 nights this year, and offers a nice change of pace from nonstop electronic music. Here’s a fun fact: from 1995-2007 Adrian was the editor and publisher of the Piss Clear, Black Rock City’s daily paper.

False Profit – Esplanade & 4:00

No details yet on artists but their big night is Tuesday. Check this link for details in a few days.

Rock Bottom (The Deep End?) – 9:00 & Fossil

The word on the street is that the legendary Deep End is no more. But, rumor has it that some Deep End DJs are doing a smaller scale camp called “Rock Bottom.” (Source)

Sometimes you have to hit Rock Bottom and begin again. 8 years ago Rock Bottom was one of 3 camps who formed The Deep End. Though the Deep End is now playa legend, some AARP members will gather for a more intimate celebration of high spirits and deep grooves. Stop in, bring a bottle, and dance.

*** Update  8/23 – Just posted to Facebook, courtesy of @burncast (source). Meat Katie is doing a daytime set on Thursday. Get ‘yer breaks on!

Space Cowboys

spacecowboysbrc09

I effin love these guys. They took last year off and the playa just didn’t feel right without the Unimog. Here’s the word: (source: spacecowboys.org)

We here at the Space Cowboys are very, very excited for our return to the playa. After our much needed break last year (twelve years in a row ain’t bad) we’re re-charged and ready to rock. We’ve got a great bunch of events planned, a great bunch of other camps we’re stoked to collaborate with; and of course we’ve got an incredible line-up of djs, from our own amazing crew, to our international “celebrity” friends, all excited to rock your world (or at least shake the dust off your ass!). We never like to ruin the surprise of great music, so you won’t find any line-up cheatsheets here (that just takes the fun out of it). but its gonna go a little something like this:

Monday night – The UNIMOG, SC djs & special guests go BLUE (Happy Birthday Chrissy!) at the Braindrop (11pm – 4am)

Tuesday afternoon The UNIMOG, SC djs and friends rock out the greeters! Just our way of giving back, and saying hello.

Tuesday night – The UNIMOG shows its dark side at False Profit.

Thursday sunrise – The UNIMOG & SC djs say arrrgh at Swashbuckler Sunrise (the saloon out by the fence).

Thursday afternoon – The UNIMOG strips with the SC djs at the Chinchilla Lingerie Show (3pm-6pm), somewhere behind our camp, listen for the Mog, or ask us before.

Thursday night /Frday early AM – The UNIMOG, SC djs, guests & a massive laser show rock the Flaming Lotus Girls’ SOMA. (1am- 4am)

Friday afternoon – The UNIMOG & SC djs Shissla & ShOOey rock out Rock Bottom (formerly known as the Deep End)!

Friday night – The Space Cowboys 12th Annual Black Rock Hoe Down at the Raygun Gothic RocketShip. With the UNIMOG (and a massive amount of additional sound) Martha, Jimmy the Wagon, Mr. Janky, Ganesh and a flotilla of other art cars. We’ll have a BYO cup bar for your drinking pleasure, grilled cheese and bacon at sunrise. This IS the one not to miss folks, why do you think we’ve been doing it so long?

Saturday afternoon – The UNIMOG, SC djs and those Rock Bottom Deep Enders, get the dust off all afternoon at Disorient’s ArtCar Wash

There’s more to come…. but we know how everyone likes to plan everything out with the best intentions, if only to be distracted by cool beats and blinking lights!

Questions? Requests? Drop a line to pk (at) spacecowboys.org

or

Swing by our camp, the ol’ RIPE Ranch at 3:30 & Esplanade!

See you out there!

The Do Lab + El Circo = Simpler Times, July 31st

simplertimes1

The Do Lab and El Circo are joining forces this year to create what is sure to be an epic sound camp on the Esplanade. They are throwing a fundraiser on July 31st which will be undoubtedly epic. As far as I know The Do Lab has been absent from the Playa since 2006 so I’m really looking forward to a triumphant return for them.

An-Ten-Nae
Mimosa
Pantyraid
Kitty-D
